Pimping Books…
Pimping Jill Knowles’ A Pirate’s Primer. It’s available here. I liked it. There are a few issues…like Adam suddenly wanting to be with Jaden, even though he’d never had any sexual contact with another man before. But all in all, it was a good read. I enjoyed it.
Stop by Jill’s website and check what else she has coming out. It’s under construction, so there’s not much to see yet. 🙂
We went and saw Things We Lost in the Fire last night. It was good. The acting far outshined the story, but I liked it. Of course, I think Benicio Del Toro is one of the greatest modern actors. His performance was incredible. Unfortunately, I’m not a huge Halle Berry fan, so I don’t have an opinion on her acting.
Tonight, we’ll be seeing either Dan in Real Life or 30 Days of Night because I told C I’d go with him. Stupid of me, I know. I don’t like horror movies and try to avoid them at all costs. But he pointed out that I sat through 28 Weeks Later, so I can certainly make it through this movie. I told him I’d try, but if I have nightmares, it’s his fault…lol.
This weekend is also the Breeder’s Cup World Championships. Two days worth of horse racing with the best horses in the world showing up to compete. We’re Tivo-ing the first day tonight. I don’t want to miss it, but we’re going to the movies. 😉 And then starting at noon tomorrow, I’ll be in front of the tv watching the races.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Friday.

Unfortunately no. They have gone in a different direction since I first read about it. Still supposedly the same night though. I hate when sequels change everything. It’s called Dog Soldiers: Fresh Meat and I’m still gonna see it as soon as it’s available cuz I love werewolf movies.
Kevin McKidd is going to play Thor in the 2009 film based on the comic book. Yeah! I loved him in Rome too.
I don’t have any real criteria for what ones I watch either. It has to just grab me (what a thing to say about horror flicks). I have ended up with quite a few duds this way. lol
Really? Is Kevin McKidd going to be in it? I loved him in Rome.
Brotherhood of the Wolf. That’s it. I might have to see about getting that one. 🙂
Never saw either Night of the Living Dead or Planet Terror.
I tend to be selective about which ones I watch and to tell you the truth,I have no real criteria on what ones I will watch and which ones I won’t. Strange, I know…lol.
I know what you mean. I don’t like senseless slaughter/torture films.
Dog Soldiers was awesome. There’s a sequel coming out next year that takes up right where the first left off. This time our fair Brit runs into a group of American soldiers who were also participating in the war games.
I think the name of the French film is Brotherhood of the Wolf.
Shaun of the Dead is one of my faves. So is Night of the Living Dead. Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror was good too.
Oh, I’ll definitely add that to my must-see movies, bradleymel.
Se, the weird thing is I don’t mind horror movies. Like Dog Soldiers was really good..though the actors’ accents got so thick during some scenes that we had to rewind and watch those scenes again…lol
Or the other wolf movie..hmm..the title is escaping me at the moment. It’s a historical French movie.
I don’t mind some zombie movies…like Resident Evil or Shaun of the Dead (which some might not consider a true zombie movie…lol)
It’s movies like Hostel or Vacancy that I don’t want to watch.
TA, I know you don’t like horror films, but since you do like Benicio, I thought you’d be interested to know that he is playing the title role in Universal’s revamped The Wolfman. I think he’s going to rock as a werewolf. 🙂
TA, 30 Days of Night is squeeze your honey scary, so maybe you should see it. lol. I personally loooove horror films and the scarier the better. My friend and I just bought our passes for the After Dark Horror fest. I also have my own horror film fest at Halloween every year. We turn out all the lights, light some candles and have plenty of food and drink. Have a great weekend.
I liked that one as well, Elisa. 🙂 J.M. did a great job with the wheelchair aspect of the story.
I have like a lot Power Play by J.M. Snyder. The main characters are almost teens (19 and 20 if I remeber well) and one of the two is on a wheelchair…
You know what, Elisa..you’re right. It’d be nice to read about a character who isn’t perfect. Maybe one is in a wheelchair or crippled in some way. I’ve read the short story in Sean Michael’s Bus Stories and Other Encounters (I think that’s the title) where one of the heroes has lost both legs.
But there aren’t a lot of stories out there with imperfect heroes.
Well, maybe for a once I’d like to read of not perfect characters… for me Adam could remain crippled… not that I’m cruel, but why he has to be sane to love? well, well, today I’m a bitch… I have just bite a colleague near me…
ah…the scars. Hmmm…maybe because they were received so long ago, there was no way they could be healed. *shrug* not sure. 🙂
SPOILER…
The eye yes, but also the scars on his back. Well maybe I’m a little to ticky
Elisa
SPOILER…..
Elisa,
Are you talking about Jaden’s eye?
I think that was a ‘gift’ from the Sea Goddess, so it wouldn’t be affected by the whole ghost thing. Or he received it after he became a ghost.
lol…I didn’t even think about that.
Tempest,
It is a nice cover, isn’t it? 🙂
Also I have some point I can fully appreciate the book, but overall I like it.
SPOILER
Why Adam becoming a ghost, heals of all his injury and Jaden instead no?
Elisa
Wow! That’s a beautiful book cover! 😀 I’ll have to check this one out when I get home tonight from work. Thanks for the heads up, TA! 😉
lol…I told him that if I wake up because of a nightmare from this movie, I’ll be waking him up as well. 😉
TA just think, if you wake up from a nightmare-C will have to provide the TLC neccesary to sooth you-lol
