Writing….

Several people asked yesterday whether I had planned on the Senator being the one who hurt Mars or if the idea appeared while I was writing.

To be honest it was a little of both. After I introduced Mars to everyone, I began to think about his injury and how he could have received it. I thought it would be a neat twist to have what Noah’s father wanted be something other than the first folder Lord gave Noah. Then I thought about all those stories where the person who hated the main character for being gay or whatever turned out to be the very thing he hated the most, but I didn’t want to do that. I didn’t want Noah’s father to be gay.

My brain started turning and I hatched the plan to make the Senator a man who took the whole BDSM thing to the extreme. It was no longer a healthy kink, but something that turned violent and deadly. He gets turned on by the blood, violence and causing pain. Figuring out rent boys could take a whipping better than the prostitutes he frequented was a bonus. So he’d beat the rent boys and sleep with the whores. The secret-and I am revealing a plot point here-is the good Senator has killed a few of the rent boys.

Mars popped into my head while I was writing that part and I realized that the scar on Mars’ neck came from the Senator. It would give Lord another even more personal reason for taking the Senator down. I really get the feeling that revenge for his own shooting isn’t the true reason Lord is going after Noah’s father.

So you see, when I write, I have an idea of what I want to happen or where I want my characters to go, but how they get there is as much a surprise for me as it for you, the reader. I let them decide what’s best for them or what works for them instead of me forcing my opinion on them. Though sometimes it causes an argument…lol…in my head.

Hope everyone enjoyed a glimpse into how I write. Have a great weekend.

How I feel today….

You might have to click on the picture to spot the bird in the tree. 🙂

Some days, this is how I feel about my writing. I have goals, but they seem so far out of reach as to be ridiculous. Other days, when I sit down to write, the goals I set for myself are right by my side and I overrun them, heading on to the next set.

Last night was one of those nights where I might have set my goals a little farther than I should have…lol. I didn’t get accomplished nearly what I wanted to do, though I did get some done. So it was good that writing occured.

I hope you all have a great day today.

Wednesday WiPs

Happy Halloween, everyone. Hope you enjoy the night. 🙂 Whatever you do…whether it’s partying and dressing up. Taking the kids out or just staying home and watching scary movies.

I’m usually the one handing out candy. C runs to his office after buying the candy and has me hand it out. But I’m making him do it tonight for a while since I’m meeting a friend for dinner after work. 😉 We’ll see if he remembers today is Halloween…lol.

Well, as for writing, I pretty much only focused on two stories and I’ll be honest, if I didn’t have to write installments for you every Tuesday and Thursday, I’d probably only have worked on one.

Home of his Own: 55,405/50,000 (12,669 words)

Where the Devil Dances: 14,782/50,000 (1,432 words)

Dreaming of Dragons: 652/50,000 (0 words)

Devil’s Addiction: 30,582/50,000 (0 words)

For Tony’s story, I followed him and Brody from Wyoming to Los Angeles. Then we headed to St. Louis and back to Wyoming. Now they’re in Tacoma, Washington. Oh, the joys of a bull rider.

Not sure how much I have left, though I’m happy I went over my word count. There was a time there when I wasn’t sure I would. 🙂

Wednesday WiPs

I thought I’d tell you where I went this past week (Wednesday from Wednesday) That’s the wonderful thing about writing is I can go visit places without having to worry about traveling. Or I can do things without worrying about getting injured…lol.

I spent quite a bit of time in Wyoming. Tony and Brody finally decided they wanted me to visit them. I re-read what I had written and found where I went wrong. (At least I hope so.) I ended up deleting about 1k of what I’d written and started fixing it. We’ll see if that does it.

I went to Morley (haven’t decided what state that’s in…lol) to help Eric and David with a stalker. Of course, I think I’m making things worse before it gets better. 😉

I headed down to Memphis to see if a NASCAR driver and his movie star lover can make a relationship work. This story is one I work on while I’m in line at stores or the bank. It’s the easiest to pick up and set down at the moment. (It’s the second book in my sports series. The first book will be out in April from Samhain.)

So here are the word counts:

Home of his Own: 42,736/50,000 (3,333 words)

Where the Devil Dances: 13,350/50,000 (1,235 words)

Dreaming of Dragons: 652/50,000 (0 words)–though I’ve been hearing whispers in the back of my mind from Mordred and George, so I can see the word count starting to move soon on this one.

Devil’s Addiction: 30,582/50,000 (0 words)–I sort of left Beng in the middle of having sex with Daniel. Poor Daniel isn’t sure who he is. I’ve changed his name three times. Hopefully, this is the last name for him. 🙂

High Line: 23,968/50,000 (1,565 words)—just so you know what I have done on this story. ‘High Line’ is a racing term for when a driver takes the higher part of the track in a turn or when he’s passing someone.

So this week I’ve done 6,133 words. The thing is I’ve always set myself a goal of 2,000 words a day and lately I have been falling woefully short of that. Though I do get days where I’m inspired to write and get a ton done. Or I’ll write a little bit on two different stories to make up the total I want to reach.

In another news, Liquid Silver has contracted The Vanguard (expanded version) and Anne Cain will be doing the cover for that one. 🙂 I can’t wait to see what she comes up with.

Have a great Wednesday. 🙂

Wednesday WiPs

I thought I was on the road to recovery, but it seems today is worse than yesterday. Ugh! I really just want to go back home, curl up under my blankets and totally forget about the outside world for a while.

Didn’t do much last night except watch Transformers again. Still a fun movie. 🙂

So on to the WiPs. Didn’t get a ton more added to any of them since I was sick over the weekend.

Home of his Own: 39, 403/50,000 (260 words)

Where the Devil Dances: 12,115/50,000 (1,486 words)

Dreaming of Dragons: 652/50,000 (0 words)

Devil’s Addiction: 30,582/50,000 (146 words)

That gives me 1,892 words for the week. Not bad. 🙂

I hope you all have a great Wednesday.

Wednesday WiPs…

First off, stop by Beautiful to see tons more great pics. 🙂 It’s very eye-opening.

Second, I’m starting to work on edits of Out of Bounds, a contemporary that will be coming out in April next year at Samhain. I’ll give you a quick sneak peek at it on Friday. Woo-hoo!

So on to the WiPs I have going (or at least the four main ones…lol):

Home of his Own: 38,753/50,000 (232 words)

Dreaming of Dragons: 652/50,000 (0 words)

Devil’s Addiction: 30,436/50,000 (263 words)

Where the Devil Dances: 9,079/50,000 (1,921 words)

That gives me 2,416 words for the week. Bit slow, but I did do edits on Understanding Forgiveness as well. (which can be found at Aspen Mountain Press..release date Oct. 19th)

I wrote 33, 804 words during the month of September and added to my running total gives me 281, 613 words for the year so far. I slowed down a little as the end of the month got closer.

Well, I hope you all have a great Wednesday.

Wednesday WiPs

Anyone need a car wash? 🙂

Wow…September is half over. Where did it go? Ugh! Haven’t accomplished nearly everything I wanted to get done. Too many irons in the fire, I guess. Might need to scale some things down, so I can get at least one story done this month…lol

Here’s the word count:

Home of His Own: 38,519/50,000 (2,289 words)

Devil’s Addiction: 29,841/50,000 (0 words)

Where the Devil Dances: 5,856/ 50,000 (2,451 words)

Giving me a total of 4,704 for the week. Though I did type in what I’d written out of The Scarab Beetle (paranormal story about step-brothers) and that netted me 8k or so of words, but it doesn’t get included with the three main stories. I do keep a total of all the words I write during a week (Mon-Sun) and then add them all up for a monthly total. Yeah, I’m weird that way. I guess I like to see that I’m actually doing something and getting stories written. 🙂

We’ll see what I’ll be working on in the next day or so…lol Have a great day.

Wednesday WiPs

Happy Wednesday, everyone. The week’s speeding by. Been busy with a ton of stuff, but I have managed to write. 🙂

The Vanguard: 49,152/55,000 (3,536 for the week)

Home of his Own: 30,913/50,000 (3,482 for the week)

The Gypsy Devil: 23,092/50,000 (2,399 for the week)

So that gives me a total of 9,417 words for the week. Which is really good since it was spread out between all three stories. 🙂 Plus I did a little work on the Flash Fiction stories I did for the last two sundays at SEx. Those should be interesting stories once I focus on them. But I’m only roughly 6000 away from my goal for The Vanguard and actually I’ll probably end up going over that word count. Not a bad thing.

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday.

Sandy Sunday

Today will be devoted to writing as much as I possibly can. 🙂 Though we might go see The Bourne Ultimatum. It’s Flash Fiction over at SEx today and people are to post their short 100 word scenes with allusions to the beach. Which is why I posted this picture today. 🙂

Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

Wednesday WiPs

Where did July go? Wasn’t it just yesterday we were celebrating Independence Day? 🙂

So how has everyone’s summer gone so far? Mine’s been good. I’ve enjoyed it, though I’m not enjoying this heat at all. Ugh! Definitely makes me long for that Ice Palace Lisa had on her blog yesterday. (She also has the next excerpt to her free blog story up today. Check it out.)

Now for my WiPs. I have to say I did pretty good on The Gypsy Devil. All right on The Vanguard and not so good on Home of his Own. But that’ll change. 😉

Home of his Own: 27,431/50,000 (so no progress on this story)

The Vanguard: 45,616/55,000 (2,287 words written)

The Gypsy Devil: 20,693/50,000 (7,216 words written)

That gives me 9,503 words in a week. And again, I’ve written some other stuff like the Flash Fiction and the little scene for Monday’s Poetry train. Since I keep track of how many words I write, I also have a count of how much I’ve written in July. 39,694 words which is the biggest count this year.

But the good news is I’m only 10k away from my goal for Vanguard. Hopefully that won’t take too long to finish up. As soon as I finish one of the main three I’m working on, I’ll be starting Dreaming of Dragons, the second of my Dragon books. This one will feature Mordred and St. George. 🙂

Have a great Wednesday everyone.
