Theme Songs

do you pick out theme songs for your books? Like a soundtrack to a movie, do certain songs play through your mind while you write?

I always listen to music while I write. Plug in my Ipod mini and hit shuffle…an eclectic collection of songs play while I immerse myself in the world I’ve created for my characters, but I always find one song that comes to symbolize the story I’m working on.

For Here Be Dragons, it was Blackmore’s Night’s “The Storm” and Nickleback’s “Just For”.

“Welcome to the dragons lair/Fingers running through your hair/She asks you out to play…”-Blackmore’s Night

“And I want to make him/Take back all that he took from you/Yes I do/And I want to rip his heart out/Just for hurting you”-Nickleback

For No Going Home, I’ve picked Rob Thomas’s “Lonely No More” and Chris LeDoux’s “Soft Place To Fall”

“I could feel you there beside me/taste your tender lips on mine/You know there’ll always be another bronc/but true love is hard to find…..I still love the rodeo but with you I can have it all/Cause last night I found a soft place to fall.”- Chris LeDoux.

“What if I was good to you?/What if you were good to me?/What if I could hold you till I feel you move inside of me?”– Rob Thomas

NGH is about a twenty-five year old bareback bronc rider and the man he meets who teaches him not to be afraid of who he really is. 🙂

I listen to a ton of different stuff, but when the song I find for the story comes on, I have to stop and listen. Even when I’m finished with the story and move on to the next..that one song will take me back to the world and those characters. 🙂

I promise a blurb for NGH soon. I’m hoping the story will be finished soon, so I can submit it.

    NGH sounds good.

I always have a soundtrack. At least one song that fits the story perfectly that I can play over and over again to get me in the mood to write.
