Guest: Stephanie Vaughan

Welcome, Stephanie. Great to have you stop by and answer a few questions. Here’s the link for Off World 2: Sanctuary, available now at Torquere Press. I had a chance to read this and it’s a great story. 🙂

1. What made you decide to write m/m romances? What, besides the obvious, attracted you to that type of story?
My crit partner had been slipping in subliminal suggestions for months, or maybe years. I wrote a f/m/m story and like the two guys togther so much that my next one was m/m and I never looked back.
And besides the fact that it’s freaking hot, you mean, right? The underdog, against-all-odds aspect appeals to me. People overcoming barriers and obstacles for the sake of love is always powerful. The notion that we’re all people underneath it all and that everyone feels and deserves love seems to find its way into anything I write.

2. Are they still being chased? Will we ever find out what happened with the info they sent off?
Presuming you mean the guys from OW and OW2, the authorities would love to get their hands on them, for a variety of reasons. As for what happpend with the information, I always figured that things probably played out the way the men talked about toward the end of OW. I’m working on ideas for OW3, and I think there might very well be a confrontation with their old enemies in that one.

3. Was Dave left behind after Cal took him down in the alley?
Oh, yeah, Dave survived. He even makes a brief appearance in OW2. I’m not sure he made it out of OW2 alive, though. I haven’t been able to figure that part out as yet.

4. Half the crew is gay? Does that mean more than just a book 2?
I’ve got ideas and characters just keep appearing that would make great heroes for their own books. There are some free OW-related stories on my site that have some characters that have only appeared briefly, but who practically jumped off the page at me. Torquere just put out a call for stories for an upcoming anthology that gave me a great idea for a short bit featuring Jimi Vilnius, one of the guys from the crew.
I know I said half the crew is gay, but between you, me and the fencepost, I’m having trouble naming anyone as the token straight guy on board.

5. What’s your favorite guilty pleasure? (Mine is watching Serenity every chance I can get…lol)
I don’t know what you mean–nothing that came from the mind of Joss Whedon could ever be anything but a total pleasure. We have the entire TV show (“Firefly”) on DVD, as well as the movie, and we watch them all the time. At least an episode per week. We’re pretty much the geek family and we never miss an episode of “Mythbusters,” although I’m probably the only one in the room perving on Grant Imahara.
But to answer your question, as far as guilty pleasures go, I guess I’d have to say watching old Backstreet Boys videos. They’re all just so darned cute and anyone who says they wouldn’t do Nick Carter in a heartbeat is damn liar.

6. What’s next for you?
After all the angst in OW2, I wanted to lighten up a little bit, so I’m working on a story with a couple of horny college guys. I need a real title for it, but my code name for it is “Dorm Porn” and it’s a lot of fun. One of the guys is half-Asian and sounds suspiciously like a certain Discovery Channel TV show cast member, so it gives me an excuse to watch something I’d be watching anyway. Always with the research.

Thank you! So I guess we’re going to draw a name for a download of OW2?

Yep, Stephanie is right. We’re going to draw a name from the people who post a comment here to win a download of OW2. Hope everyone enjoyed the interview. Have a great day.

Hey, I am just hoping that Joss will eventually honor us with another tv show, and I would love to read OW2.

So glad there will be more, it gives me one more thing to look forward to but, dang it, it also means I have to wait….

Token straight guy? That’s funny because Dave was so mean at first I thought it was because he’s homophobic and then realized he’s just NOT a nice man.

I read what TP has up for OW2, don’t like the new co-owner of Nelly’s. That’s got to be scary for Alex, especially if he’s skittish about being touched.

I’m looking forward to reading OW2. I re-read OW recently and was hoping Alex and Sandy would get together.
